Abersoch named Flip-flop Capital of the World

Celebrations were in full flow in Abersoch last night as it was named the Flip-flop Capital of the World for the 10th year in a row.

The popular town on the Llyn Peninsula was found to have the most Flip-flops per capita than anywhere else on the planet.

Jed, who owns 20 pairs told us, ‘It’s splendid news. As a local for two months of the year, I’m never without my flip-flops. They’re great for the beach, for going to the shops and for climbing the mountains.’

One of the biggest providers of the flip-flops (which are named that for the flipping and flopping sound they make) is Abersoch shop House of Flop, where sales have been through the roof. Owner Dennis told us ‘You can’t be seen without flip-flops here and what’s important for us is that we don’t import from China. No, we have many of the native Pwllheli and Nefyn school children work in their school holidays, making them in our warehouse for a deal that will see them get 10% off flip-flops for their family.’

The annual Flip-flop Parade will be on the first of June, where the traditional ‘Caressing of the Giant Flip-flop’ will take place.
