Bangor named ‘Most Festive City’ as Christmas lights have been up for fifteen years

The City of Bangor has beat off rivals to be named the Most Festive City in Europe, as its Yuletide lights have stayed up for over a decade.

The accolade was given after the years of persistence finally paid off. Mayor Gary Mwsh said, ‘I think about them coming down after new year but then I think ‘Naa, Christmas is this year again now, so we’ll keep them up’

‘Obviously we don’t switch them on, most of those lights were bought in 1984 so they use way more energy than new ones. So yes, they are costly on energy when they’re on, but the lads save their energy by leaving them be year after year.’

The most popular light in the Bangor display according to passers-by, was the white light by Go For It Sports that flashes off and on.
