Man dies trying to say Bannau Brycheiniog

A 47 year old man has died attempting to pronounce Bannau Brycheiniog for the first time, we can report.

Jeremy Sterling of Peterborough had always known the area as the Brecon Beacons and had struggled with the change. His widow Debra said, ‘Jeremy was quite happy saying the old name. Not the new one that says it’s the old one, but the old one that wasn’t the old one, but a newer one.’

‘The road signs had the new one and he kept trying to say it. I told him to stop but he just wouldn’t. I kept telling him it’s dangerous, especially when driving but he just wouldn’t listen, it was too late.’

‘He was so brave as he managed the first bit okay but by the time he got to the second, he was frothing at the mouth. His face was red and it just took him. That name killed him!’

Bannau Brycheiniog councillor Llew Ap Llewelyn said, ‘Shame.’
