Gwynedd Council insist potholes are great for wild swimming

A cash-strapped council has insisted it will not be fixing their pothole problems as they can be used for wild swimming.

Gwynedd Council have said they will not be filling in the holes and have instead told wild swimmers to enjoy them. Council road officer Glyn Jackson said, ‘We must take advantage of what we have with the budget we are given, therefore it is right we acknowledge that numerous potholes can be used for wild swimming.’

‘They are deep and now contain less excrement than our rivers do, plus they are all over the place. All we ask is the swimmers to perhaps put a cone out so drivers can see them, which also works as a deterrent for them to not drive through them, so, double win.’

Wild swimmer Poppy Ragdley said, ‘Ideally we’d rather stick to rivers and lakes but I have always been quite tempted to have a dip in a pothole if I’m honest.’
The council are also working on plans for shutdown libraries to become wild camping spots.
