Athlete’s parking nightmare at Paralympics

Beryl Crump Sport

The Paralympics have gotten under way in France amid a parking nightmare for athletes.

Chaos and arguments have caused holdups near the athletes village as everybody is trying to to park in designated spots.

Shot putter Al Cross told us, ‘It’s mayhem. We are all fighting for 6 bays. The French officials are saying it doesn’t matter where we park but I’ve not got the blue badge for nothing.’

‘I ended up in a supermarché. I can’t complain it was right outside and the croissants were a delight, but it was 6 miles from the stadium. I had to carry my shotput the whole way.’

One non-disabled person grounds worker also had his troubles, ‘The choice of 700 parking spaces has just gone. I like to have the luxury of driving past empty spaces at the chance of potentially getting the greatest spot possible and if I manage to find one of the non-disabled spaces I can see everyone making sure that I haven’t got a blue badge. So judgmental.’

‘One guy was shouting ‘You’re disabled! You shouldn’t be parking here!’, just cos I got out of the car with a limp but it was cos I suffer terrible cramp.’
